The XYLOURIS ENSEMBLE is a cross generational group of ten musicians who have developed a unique musical style based on the rich tradition of Cretan music.

The Xylouris Ensemble’s music draws its inspirations from the links between Crete and Australia and beyond. The Ensemble began in the early 1990s in Melbourne, and released five albums over a ten year period, two of them ARIA-nominated.

The 2000s have brought a new development: the group has been joined by a new generation of musicians - children of some of the original members, who bring their personal input.  The Ensemble has had professional collaborations and joined the stage with a wide range of international musicians including Cesaria Evora, The Dirty Three, Psarandonis and Angelakas.
