A FAMILY AFFAIR picked up the highly coveted Hellenic Film Academy Award for Best Documentary 2015. The ceremony was held on Monday 30/4/15 at the Onassis Cultural Centre in Athens, in what was arguably one of Greek cinema’s most successful years with a nomination list ripe with international film-festival contenders, like ‘Un Certain Regard’ contender Xenia by P. Koutras and Berlinale-screened Stratos by Y. Economides and At Home by T. Karanikolas. The HFA Awards are given annually by the Hellenic Film Academy, for excellence of cinematic achievements in Greek cinema, replacing the abolished Greek State Film Awards.
The Award for Best Documentary was picked up by 'A Family Affair' producers Rea Apostolides and Yuri Averof.

The feature-length documentary premieres on January 8, 2015, in Athens, Greece (DANAOS Cinema).
The following week, the film will also be released in theatres in Crete (Heraklion and Chania) as well as Thessaloniki.
The film's European premiere will take place at the FIPA-International Festival of Audiovisual Programs, Biarritz, France, followed by a release in the US and Australia.
A short version of the film, entitled ‘Sounds Like Home’ was aired on ABC Australia in October 2014. In 2015, the film will be broadcast in Greece by OTE TV.
We need your support to share the wonderful music of the film.
We want to create and distribute a high-quality soundtrack of the film, with the best songs and live performances which we recorded over a three year period from Belgium, to Greece and Australia.
The music of the soundtrack is performed by George Xylouris, his three children Nikos, Antonis and Appolonia as well as their legendary grandfather, Psarantonis. The soundtrack also features recordings with drummer Jim White and the Xylouris and Hannan family friends in Crete and Australia.
Anemon is collaborating with Coti K, an established musician, composer, record producer and sound engineer based in Athens. His work includes collaborations with Tuxedomoon, Stereo Nova, Blaine Reininger, The Raining Pleasure, Nikos Veliotis and Ilios.
But this not all!
We want to run an outreach campaign to make Cretan music known to a broader international audience. Since we started this project, we have seen immense interest across the world, by individuals, associations, music and dance groups, schools and universities to use the film. We are working with Maria Hnaraki, founding director of Greek Studies at Drexel University and author of ‘Cretan Music: Unravelling Ariadne’s Thread’, to help bring the film and Cretan music to classrooms across the world –especially in communities of the Greek diaspora. The teacher’s guide will be offered free of cost and will help teachers use ‘A Family Affair’, not only to teach Greek but to help students connect with Greek music, poetry, dance and culture. We will also encourage Greek communities in the US, Australia and Europe, to host their own screenings of the film and special events dedicated to Cretan culture.
